Samir Sharma (he/him) is a 2B Honours Mathematics student, originally from Calgary, Alberta.

While at Waterloo, Samir has worked tirelessly to improve the student experience. He has been extensively involved with MathSoc, where he was the Fall 2024 Speaker of MathSoc Council and a resource member of the MathSoc Board of Directors. He then worked as the Treasurer of the Computer Science Club to ensure club funds were well-organized and used to operate the club’s essential public services, and as the President of Residence Life Council South, leading a team that hosted events for all UWP residences.

Samir currently serves as a member of WUSA’s Board of Directors, Chair of the Student Life Endowment Fund (SLEF), Chair of the Mathematics Graduation Committee. As a WUSA Director, Samir led an update of governing documents, and contributed to governance reforms that led to the introduction of the Vice-President, Student Experience position. He also co-led WUSA’s co-op advocacy, helping fight for a lower co-op fee increase of 2.4% (compared to a proposed 10% last year), and bringing key co-op issues to the attention of CEE leadership. As the Chair of the Student Life Endowment Fund (SLEF), Samir helped distribute over a quarter million dollars to student groups, conducted a full marketing and governance update for the fund, and grow the fund by over 1 million dollars.

Samir is running for the WUSA President after being inspired by fellow student leaders and his experience on the Board of Directors. He is committed to making Board a mor effective vehicle for student voices, and as the lead advocate to the university, Samir will push for university decision that genuinely serve the students. He will focus on strengthening campus culture by expanding “third places” on campus where students can relax, connect, and build a campus-wide culture while preserving the Faculty culture that makes Waterloo unique.

In his free time, Samir loves hockey, chess, and prank wars.
