“We can just invent quotes”

-Patrik Buhring

Patrik Buhring (he/him) is a 4A Pure Mathematics and Computer Science student. He is Peruvian and German and speaks English, Spanish, and French. He has lived in quite a few places, including Waveland, Mississippi; Lima, Peru; and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Patrik is just about the least political student you could meet, but is often compelled to help out with student politics. He has been quite involved with MathSoc, as VP, Academic in Spring 2025, a Board Dember in Fall 2025, and Chair of the Board Winter 2026. Through MathSoc, he has gained familiarity with various parts of university governance and student advocacy, including the issues of co-op fee increases, unpaid co-ops, faculty-student relations, and guiding students through petitions. He has also contributed to other organized student advocacy efforts, such as the Academic Affairs Advocacy Committee (3AC) and the Math Faculty Undergraduate Affairs Committee (UAC).

Patrik’s philosophy is focused on being pragmatic, and he aims to advocate against program cuts and towards implementing accessible software that allow students to plan and track their degree progress. While he may not have the same political experience as his fellow team members, he shares common goals of supporting students and their academic development and freedom. He is a great problem-solver, focusing on getting things done despite bureaucratic slowdown.

In addition to student advocacy, Patrik has published a sphere-generation library that has over 5 million downloads.
